Guarantees of origin

A guarantee of origin is the sole proof of the origin of consumed electricity.

Guarantees of origin for renewable energy may be obtained together with electricity by choosing a suitable so-called green electricity package from an electricity supplier. Alternatively, guarantees of origin may be acquired separately from electricity, meaning that standard grid electricity is purchased and the required amount of guarantees of origin is subsequently obtained to verify the origin of the electricity.

Electricity consumers can view the origin of their consumed electricity by logging into the electricity origin disclosure portal within the Renewable Energy Information System. The portal provides origin information to consumers with an active electricity supply contract. Further details are available here.
