Trading oppurtunities

The biomethane registry and transport sector quota certificates trading platform is a domestic platform (hereinafter “trading platform”) where transport sector quota certificates for biomethane and renewable electricity are issued to Estonian market participants. In addition, market participants can transfer biomethane, renewable electricity, and liquid biofuel quota certificates on the trading platform.

Transfers of biomethane, renewable electricity, or liquid biofuel quota certificates are carried out through pre-trading agreement or auction. Calendar year obligations can only be fulfilled with quota certificates corresponding to renewable fuels released for consumption in the Estonian transport sector within the same calendar year.

The requirement for the biomethane registry and transport sector quota certificates trading platform is established under § 2⁶ (2) of the Liquid Fuel Act (VKS). The requirement for trading transport statistics via auction is regulated by Regulation No. 90 of the Minister of Economic Affairs and Infrastructure of 14.11.2022, “Procedure for Trading in Biofuel, Biomethane and Electricity Statistics and Greenhouse Gas Emission Statistics,” which can be read HERE.
