Applying for renewable energy support

Applications for renewable energy support are submitted via the Renewable Energy Information System. Support is paid on a calendar-month basis.

The minimum payment amount is €5, meaning that an application for support can only be submitted if the amount of support is at least €5.

As of 14.07.2024, support payments can be applied for in respect of output from the previous 12 months (Electricity Market Act § 591 (9)).

Private individuals have the option to set their preferred frequency of support payments and minimum payout amount; in such cases, there is no need to submit a monthly application.

Eligible production units must be registered in the Renewable Energy Information System.

The information system calculates the amount of eligible electricity and the support amount for the previous month on the 4th–5th day of each month.

The system generates a draft application for the producer concerning their production unit. The producer’s representative must submit the application no later than the 7th day of the month, which ensures payment of the support on the 21st day of the same month (or the following working day).

A producer’s authorized representative can grant authorization in the information system to an accountant or another person to submit the application for support (to do so, log in to the system, click on the producer’s name displayed at the top right of the page, then select “My Data” and “Authorized Users”).

Cogeneration Plants and Recipients of High-Efficiency Cogeneration Support

In general, the same requirements apply as for the renewable energy support application described above. Additionally, for cogeneration plants applying for high-efficiency cogeneration or biomass-based electricity production support, data on the fuels used for electricity production during the previous calendar month (or relevant support application period) must be entered into the information system by the 5th day of the month at the latest. This includes the fuel type, quantity, and lower calorific value; the amount of cogenerated electricity; the amount and use of useful heat produced; and the total amount of heat produced.

It must also be ensured that the Renewable Energy Information System has been provided with information on the electrical and thermal nominal efficiency of the production unit, as well as the calculated primary energy savings and overall efficiency.
